Tips for day trips from Columbia

  • Leave before 8 am on summer weekends to beat lake and beach traffic on I-26.

  • Bring water and bug spray for Congaree and Poinsett from April to October.
  • Check park capacity: state parks can close their gates when full on summer holidays.
